Room 90

June 22, 2011

Room 90 was mostly clean, and silent;
only there were the sperm of the hanged man
and the scream of the uprooted mandrake.

Room 89

June 21, 2011

In room 89, a cellar or dungeon,
we were kept;
they provided us with porridge, dried fruit, books
and lockets;
never we guessed that more than one other room
did exist.

Room 88

June 13, 2011

We kids used to gather at the old tree
and go to room 88, in the back
of the commoner farm, where corn pasties
with butter were made by the old gaffer
– yes it was him who broke Ted’s head with a
showel, but that was way later, even
later than the, um, furnace accident.

Room 87

In room 87, a countryside warehouse
(it was one warm end of march)
they told us to stay shut about all that we saw
(or they’d torture our mothers).

Room 86

June 7, 2011

In room 86, a chapel or a barn, there were a duke with the face of a boar, the priest of frogs and a painter with no trunk.

Room 84

June 1, 2011

Stand still, and I will tell you
the tale of room 84
…sie begehrte ein kleines Stübchen…
a tale of sorrow and pain
a lecture on love and chance
a tale of glimpses, of hope
betrayed, of dignity lost.
